Xylem to Expand Real-Time Water Quality Monitoring with TriOS Acquisition

New advanced sensing capabilities will strengthen existing portfolio, helping utilities and industry respond

Xylem Inc. (NYSE: XYL), a leading global water solutions company, today announced that it has acquired TriOS Mess- und Datentechnik GmbH, a specialist in optical sensing and measurement systems for water quality monitoring across utilities, industry, and environmental research, through a wholly-owned subsidiary.

The combination of TriOS’s advanced sensing instruments with Xylem’s analytical instrumentation platform will further enhance real-time visibility into water conditions across entire systems. This integration will help operators accelerate decision-making, reduce operational costs, and prevent environmental incidents while staying compliant with tightening regulations.

Over 40% of monitored water bodies worldwide are severely polluted.[1] As water quality standards become more stringent, utilities and industrial customers require more accurate and timely data to manage increasingly complex operations. By integrating TriOS, Xylem will extend its capabilities to provide real-time, connected measurement of crucial water health parameters, improving the tracking of nutrients, organics, and pollutants. This enhanced monitoring supports healthier ecosystems and directly benefits the communities that rely on these water sources for drinking, agriculture, and recreation.

TriOS’s sensors can be used on their own or combined to track up to 35 parameters at the same time. This enables multiple data points to be captured in a single, continuous view, helping operators see how conditions are changing and respond with greater speed and confidence. This comprehensive approach not only streamlines regulatory reporting but also improves risk management and public safety by allowing for prompt intervention when threats to water quality are detected.

“Water systems can no longer rely on delayed or fragmented data,” said Javier Villa, Vice President, Xylem Analytics. “Bringing these technologies together helps utilities and industrial operators detect changes earlier, respond faster, and meet regulatory standards with greater confidence through more continuous measurement.”

TriOS, based in Rastede, Germany, has specialized in water quality analysis since 1998. Its instruments are used by utilities, industrial operators, and environmental researchers to monitor and manage water quality.
